This Privacy Policy describes how Pantry Chef (the “App”) collects, uses, and shares information. By using the App, you agree to this Policy.

What We Collect #

  • Device-stored data: Pantry items, saved recipes, ratings, shopping list, Food Diary entries (numeric estimates, notes, and small thumbnails), and preferences are saved locally on your device.
  • Optional inputs you provide: Text prompts, ingredient names, and optionally images (camera) and audio (voice) to identify ingredients or generate content. For Food Diary (Premium), you may submit a meal photo and optional notes to estimate calories/macros.
  • Network data (service operation): When you request generated content, the App sends relevant inputs to our backend and/or trusted AI providers (e.g., Google AI) to fulfill your request. We log minimal, aggregated technical data for reliability and abuse prevention.

We do not collect precise location or create user accounts. We do not sell personal data.

How We Use Data #

  • Provide features (recipe generation, meal plans, categorization, shopping lists).
  • Improve reliability and security (e.g., rate limiting, error logs, abuse detection).
  • Customer support and troubleshooting.

Camera & Microphone (Android Permissions) #

  • CAMERA: Capture an image to identify ingredients, estimate nutrition for Food Diary (Premium), or scan barcodes. Images are processed to fulfill your request and are not stored longer than necessary.
  • RECORD_AUDIO: Voice input to add ingredients. Audio is used to transcribe your request and not stored longer than necessary.

Sharing #

  • Service providers: We may process requests using trusted services (e.g., Google AI/GenAI). Inputs you send for generation (text, images) are used to return results and may be retained by providers per their policies to maintain and improve service quality.
  • Legal: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect users and our services.

Data Retention #

  • On-device data persists until you delete it (e.g., via Settings > Reset/Export Food Diary, Clear Data) or uninstall the App.
  • Server logs are retained for a limited period for security, then deleted or anonymized.
  • AI request payloads (including Food Diary photos) are not stored longer than necessary to return results on our side. Third-party providers may have their own limited retention—see their policies.

Security #

We use transport encryption (HTTPS) and access controls on backend systems. No method is 100% secure; use the App at your own risk.

Children #

The App is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child provided data, contact us to remove it.

Your Choices #

  • You can clear local data from Settings.
  • You may choose not to grant Camera/Microphone permissions; related features will be unavailable.
  • You can uninstall the App at any time.

International Users & Canadian Privacy #

We aim to comply with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy laws. Data may be processed in Canada, the United States, or other countries where our providers operate. By using the App, you consent to this international processing and to reasonable contractual and organizational safeguards with service providers.

We may update this Policy. We will post changes in the App. Continued use constitutes acceptance.
